Brainstorming questions for the April 14, 2009 ComETS Spring Symposium student panel...
  • Please give us a quick introduction: name, College, undergrad/grad, major program, etc.
  • What are some of the primary ways in which you use technology in your personal and academic life?
  • If people are going to communicate with you, what communication channel(s) (e.g., cell phone, instant messaging, Facebook, e-mail) do you prefer that they use? Is your answer different for instructors versus other individuals?
  • Do your instructors use technology in your courses? Do students? If so, what technologies do they primarily use?
  • What technologies could (should) your instructors be using?
  • Do you feel that there is a 'digital disconnect' at ISU between students and instructors?
  • If you have technology difficulties, where do you go for help?
  • What's the one thing you like most about instructional/classroom technology use at ISU?
  • What's the one thing you'd change about instructional technology use at ISU?
  • How do you use technology to facilitate your learning?
  • What technologies do you find most useful to help your learning, and why?
  • Do you use specific note-taking software?
  • Would you prefer to use electronic books in place of hard copies?
  • How technologically savvy would you say you are (on a scale from 1-10)?
  • Have you ever used a wiki? Did you find it / do you imagine it, difficult?
  • Why haven't you used more technology/ies in your learning? What are the barriers to your adoption?
  • Do you use all the available technologies that you are aware of? why / why not?
  • Have you ever created a web site / wiki / blog / social network profile? describe your experiences, or why you have not tried one.
  • Do you think technology's full potential is being maximized in learning / teaching? how do you think it could be better implemented?
  • Do you believe that your high school properly prepared you for the technology you would be faced with and need at the collegiate level?
  • Do you feel that having a laptop during your High School years would have better prepared you for college?
  • Would you like to use tools like blogs, wikis, google docs in your classes? Do you like the interaction and the chance to contribute, or do these just become another assignment you need to do?
